A new OPEN for the toughest terrain

We know OPEN as the brand that helped define the modern gravel bike, and that still shows in the UP|UPPER line: agile, efficient and built to handle like a road bike despite wide tyres. With the new WIDE 2.0, OPEN takes it a step further: wider than ever and, according to OPEN itself, the fastest bike for the toughest terrain. Tyre clearance up to 66mm, built for the toughest races and the longest bikepacking trips.

Wider than ever

The biggest update is tyre clearance. The WIDE 2.0 offers room up to 700x66c (29x2.6''), significantly wider than most gravel bikes and edging towards mountain bike territory. OPEN recommends 55-66mm tyres for the best balance between aero and rolling resistance.

That extra room changes what terrain becomes realistic. Where an average gravel bike hits its limits on gravel and loose stones, the WIDE 2.0 stays stable and fast. The geometry is also slightly longer and taller than the previous model, a change that reflects how gravel riders are now riding faster and further than a few years ago.

AC/DC+ fork: aero and cargo in one

Also new is the AC/DC+ fork, standard on every WIDE 2.0. The fork combines a fully aero profile for fast rides and races with integrated mounting points for cargo on longer trips. Bags can be strapped directly to the fork with no weight or aero penalty, or you can fit a standard bottle or cargo cage.

It's a combination OPEN previously offered separately, now brought together in one design: fast when it needs to be, and ready for cargo the moment a ride stretches beyond a single day.

OPEN BAR: 15mm adjustment without swapping stems

The WIDE 2.0 also gets the patented OPEN BAR system, the same bar we already know from the OPEN U.P. 2.0. The bar comes in 10 sizes and lets you adjust effective stem length in 5mm steps across a 15mm range, without swapping the stem or, in most cases, disconnecting the brake hoses.

The closed, fully carbon design without threaded inserts or cuts for the clamping bolts delivers the best result on weight, stiffness and strength. With 10 bar sizes and 4 stem lengths within each, there's a fitting combination for nearly every position.

Details that make the difference

There's plenty changed at the detail level too. The chainstays are dropped on both sides, which not only creates extra room for wide tyres but also produces a stiffer box structure around the bottom bracket area. That's exactly where power transfer is most sensitive to flex, so that extra stiffness comes straight through in how direct the bike feels under power.

The frame also has internal storage in the downtube, sealed with a Fidlock latch that clicks open and shut in one motion. Enough room for a multitool and a spare tube, always within reach. OPEN also chose a threaded T47 bottom bracket with an 85.5mm wide shell, UDH compatibility for modern SRAM drivetrains, and mounting points for both short and long toptube bags. Details that aren't there to stand out, but to make long-term use that bit easier.

Who is the OPEN WIDE 2.0 for?

The WIDE 2.0 is the right choice if you're after the widest possible tyre clearance without giving up on handling. Racing tough gravel events, riding multi-day bikepacking trips over rough terrain, or simply looking for a gravel bike that doesn't lose its composure the moment the path turns to loose gravel. Then this is a bike worth taking seriously.
