New SRAM Force E1 Groupset: Lighter, Smarter and More Ergonomic
New SRAM Force E1 Groupset: Lighter, Smarter and More Ergonomic
Today is the day: SRAM officially launches the new Force E1 groupset, the successor to the popular Force D2 AXS. Although we haven’t had the chance to ride it yet, the first details are promising. SRAM is making major strides in ergonomics, integration and weight, which is especially good news for gravel and road riders looking for the perfect balance between performance and price.
Two versions – for gravel and road
The SRAM Force E1 groupset comes in two versions:
- Force E1 1x13 XPLR is the gravel-specific setup with an extra gear compared to the previous XPLR (now 1x13 instead of 1x12).
- Force E1 2x12 is aimed at road riders and the direct successor to the Force AXS D2 2x12.
New shifters: more comfortable and smarter
What stands out immediately is the new, slimmer design of the shifters, which we also see on the latest Red AXS. It not only creates a sleeker look but also offers better grip and more control, especially for riders with smaller hands or when riding in the drops.
The shifters also include extra bonus buttons on the inside of the hoods. These buttons are fully customizable via the AXS app and can be used to control your bike computer, lights or e-bike support.
Improved braking performance
SRAM is also introducing the push-rod braking system in Force E1, a technology we previously only saw on Red. The result is more braking power and better modulation, especially on technical descents or when riding with full gear on gravel.
Weight: noticeable savings per component
Although Force is positioned just below Red, there are clear weight improvements compared to the previous D2 generation.
Component | Force D2 | Force E1 | Red E1 |
---|---|---|---|
Cassette (XPLR) | 375g (10-44t) | 350g (10-46t) | 288g (10-46t) |
Crankset 2x PM | 745g | 700g | 580g |
With these improvements, SRAM Force E1 moves closer to Red’s high-end performance while maintaining its more competitive price point.
Conclusion
The new Force E1 is not just a small upgrade, but a serious step forward. Especially the improved ergonomics, added features and weight savings make this a groupset to keep an eye on. As soon as we get to ride it, we’ll share our impressions. Stay tuned.
