An ENVE MOG custom build that doesn't choose between speed and comfort

Gravel riding hasn't been just one thing for a long time. One day it's a fast ride over hardpacked gravel, the next a route that turns into loose stones, roots and unpredictable terrain. A bike that wants to be good at all of it has to make choices that go beyond just weight or speed.

This week we finished a custom build tailored to exactly that: an ENVE MOG in Aspen White, fast where it can be and composed and comfortable the moment the terrain gets rougher.

    The foundation: frame and cockpit

The build starts with an ENVE MOG in size 60, paired with an ENVE SES AR OnePiece cockpit in 420 x 11, a Ceramicspeed ODH SLT headset and a 400 mm ENVE seatpost. An integrated cockpit doesn't just look clean, it also delivers direct, predictable steering, exactly what you want the moment speed picks up or the terrain gets technical.

    Drivetrain down to the details

That same precision carries through to the drivetrain. A SRAM RED AXS E1 XPLR groupset with a 44T chainring and 175 mm cranks, finished with a purple chain that gives the build just a bit of extra character without going overboard. Around it, a Ceramicspeed ALPHA bottom bracket, a silver Ceramicspeed OSPW X and a power meter take care of the last few percent: parts that don't stand out in a photo, but do determine how efficiently every pedal stroke actually converts into forward motion.

    Where comfort and speed meet

The real answer to "all-round" in this build lies mainly in the wheels and tyres. The ENVE G.SES 4.5 PRO in silver is the balanced model within ENVE's gravel line-up: a 30 mm internal rim width, developed specifically around modern, wide gravel tyres. Not the most aerodynamic option in the range, but the wheelset best suited to varied terrain. That wider rim changes how a tyre behaves under load: more sidewall support, a more stable tyre profile, more confidence the moment pace or terrain picks up.

That same philosophy carries through into the tyre choice. Up front a 55 mm Schwalbe RX Pro for extra volume, grip and comfort on the rougher sections, out back a faster Thunder Burt 2.1'' for the moments when the pace needs to go up, mounted with Fillmore valves. No compromise per tyre, but a deliberate choice per wheel.

The details that make the build personal

Around that core, the final choices were made that make the build personal: an Arundel Mandible bottle cage in UD gloss, Crankbrothers Mallet Trail pedals in purple/black that pair nicely with the chain, grey ENVE bar tape and SRAM AXS Blips beneath the centre of the bar for extra shifting ease on long rides. On their own, perhaps none of them decisive, but together they make sure this ENVE MOG doesn't just ride well, it also feels like a bike built specifically for its owner.

    Protected from the first ride

To help that investment pay off over the long term too, the build was finished with the BikeProtector Introduction Package, including PPF and coating. The frame stays protected against stone chips and everyday wear, while the coating makes cleaning a lot easier.

Thinking about your own custom build?

This ENVE MOG shows exactly what we're always looking for at BikeSuperior: not a bike that's a bit good at everything, but a bike that fits precisely how and where you ride, from the frame choice down to the last bottle cage.
