The new ENVE SES G Line-up
Gravel riding has changed rapidly over the last few years. Speeds are higher, races are getting faster and modern gravel bikes are increasingly ridden with wider tires and more aggressive setups. That development also changes what riders expect from a wheelset.
The new ENVE G SES line-up is ENVE’s answer to exactly that shift. Not a slightly adapted road wheel or a traditional gravel wheelset with a wider rim, but a completely new platform developed around the reality of modern gravel riding: wider tires, higher speeds and real-world efficiency.
Gravel is becoming faster
For a long time, gravel wheel development mainly focused on durability, comfort and low weight. Aerodynamics played a much smaller role compared to road cycling. But that balance has clearly shifted.
Events like Unbound, The Traka and Gravel Worlds have shown that gravel racing is no longer just about surviving rough terrain. Riders are spending more and more time riding at speeds where aerodynamics start to matter, while tire sizes have increased significantly at the same time. Where 38 mm once felt “wide” 45–50 mm setups are quickly becoming the new standard.
At BikeSuperior we increasingly see riders choosing wider tire setups, even among performance-oriented gravel riders. Not purely for comfort, but because wider tires often bring more control, efficiency and confidence over longer distances.
That combination creates a new challenge. Wider tires offer more grip, lower rolling resistance and more stability on rough terrain, but they also completely change airflow around the wheel. Traditional gravel rims were never really optimized for this. The new G SES wheels clearly are.
What’s especially interesting is not necessarily the aerodynamic numbers themselves, but what these wheels represent. Gravel bikes are increasingly being ridden harder and faster than just a few years ago, often with setups that overlap more and more with all-road riding. The new G SES wheels feel like a direct reflection of that development.
Designed around modern gravel tires
The biggest difference with the new G SES line-up becomes obvious immediately: the rim widths.
The flagship G SES 6.7 PRO uses an enormous 35 mm internal rim width, while the G SES 4.5 and 4.5 PRO feature a still very wide 30 mm internal width. These dimensions are specifically developed around modern high-volume gravel tires between 44 mm and 52 mm.
That approach says a lot about where ENVE believes gravel is heading. These wheels are not designed around making a narrow tire fit slightly wider. They are fully optimized around the tire sizes serious gravel riders are already using today. And that changes more than just comfort.
A wider rim changes how the tire sits and behaves under load. The tire profile becomes more stable, cornering support improves and the bike feels calmer once terrain becomes rougher or speeds increase. Especially during long gravel races, rough bikepacking routes or fast all-road riding, that added stability becomes a noticeable advantage.
Different models for different types of riders
What makes the new line-up interesting is that ENVE did not create just one gravel wheelset.
- The ENVEG SES 6.7 PRO clearly targets riders who prioritize pure speed and efficiency. Riders focused on fast gravel races, high average speeds and aggressive setups.
- TheENVEG SES 4.5 PRO feels more balanced. Still performance-oriented, but likely more versatile across different types of terrain and riding styles.
- The ENVEG SES 4.5 shares much of the same rim philosophy as the G SES 4.5 PRO, but in a slightly more accessible package.
And honestly, that makes sense. Modern gravel riding has become incredibly personal. Some riders still prefer lighter and more playful setups, while others prioritize stability, control and efficiency over long distances and rough terrain.
Now available at BikeSuperior
The new ENVE G SES wheelsets are now available at BikeSuperior. Whether you’re building a fast gravel race bike, looking for more stability on rough terrain or simply trying to understand which wheel and tire combination best suits your riding style, we’re happy to help.
Modern gravel setups have become more personal than ever. Rim width, tire choice and riding position all influence how a bike feels and performs in real-world conditions. That’s why we always start with the same question: how and where do you ride?
